OU Traveller

Back to Innovation Directory Listing

The functionality offered by the OU Traveller script (which runs when an ISBN like number is found in a URL, as for example on Amazon) includes:

  • a lookup of the book in the OU library catalogue, with status report;
  • different actions dependent on the OU library catalogue report for that item; for example, if the book is not held by the library, then an option is provided to request the book, which calls the dummy library 'request a book' page and prepopulates the fields using information pulled from an Amazon webservice;
  • a link to cite the current book using a service provided by studentabc;
  • a lookup of the book on O'Reilly Safari (with a link to the item if it is held there);
  • a lookup of the item at Google books (with a link to the item if it is held there);
